Download CMIP6 statistically downscaled climate scenarios (CanDCS-U6 & CanDCS-M6)

Users can download subsets of individual statistically downscaled global climate model datasets and multi-model ensembles. Users define these subsets by selecting options such as time, region, variable, emission scenario, and model.

To select a geographic area, users can click and drag a box on the map or enter the coordinates below the map. Please note that data is not available for single grid points.

Two datasets are available, each produced with a different downscaling method: CanDCS-U6 (univariate) and CanDCS-M6 (multivariate). For more information, click the info icon next to the dataset selection. Please see the technical notes for details on the downscaling methods.

CanDCS-U6: Canadian Downscaled Climate Scenarios–Univariate method from CMIP6

CanDCS-M6: Canadian Downscaled Climate Scenarios–Multivariate method from CMIP6

The Pacific Climate Impacts Consortium (PCIC) statistically downscaled both datasets.

  • CanDCS-U6 was downscaled using the BCCAQv2 method (Bias Correction / Constructed Analogues with Quantile mapping version 2)
  • CanDCS-M6 was downscaled using the MBCn method (N-dimensional Multivariate Bias Correction)

Both datasets include the same global climate models, variables (daily maximum and minimum temperature, and precipitation), time period (1950-2100), and Shared Socioeconomic Pathways (SSPs): SSP1-2.6, SSP2-4.5, and SSP5-8.5.

In 2024, ECCC added ensemble and mean temperature datasets, and PCIC produced SSP3-7.0 data for the CanDCS-M6 dataset. SSP3-7.0 is available for a smaller set of models. See the updates and errata page for more details.

There are two main differences between the datasets.

  1. CanDCS-U6 was downscaled using the univariate BCCAQv2 method, while CanDCS-M6 used the multivariate MBCn method, as previously described
  2. CanDCS-M6 was downscaled using a new blended target dataset developed by PCIC. This target dataset combines NRCANmet and PNWNAmet gridded observational datasets. It extends into the western United States to 41°N and includes the Columbia River Basin. These updates improve how precipitation is represented in western Canada
